Sharon is a Native Nevadan, was born and raised in the Reno-Sparks area, and was a Sparks High School graduate of 1977. After high school, she had her first child at 18 and moved with her husband to Yerington to run and operate his family’s newly purchased 600-acre alfalfa ranch named the 3 R Bar Ranch.
Sharon was never really an athlete, but she was always an active person who always struggled with her weight. After her daughter was born, her doctor handed her a calorie book and told her she needed to lose weight. With no instruction, she figured that the fewer calories you ate the more weight you could lose. At one point, she had lost over 40 pounds and fit into a size 1 by only eating 500 calories a day. Having horrible headaches every day, she finally realized she was on the verge of anorexia. She began to eat again but weight continued to be a problem for her.
Fast forward to May 2014…Sharon was sitting in her doctor’s office weighing in at 200 pounds and her cholesterol at 235. Her doctor told her that she would need to take high-cholesterol medication. Again, there weren’t any instructions or recommendations given to change her lifestyle for the betterment of her health. Sharon didn’t want to go on medication so she asked the doctor to give her four months to see if she could bring down the high number on both her weight and cholesterol.
Not sure what she was going to do, Sharon’s daughter suggested going to her gym as a drop-in one Saturday morning. On a Saturday, June 1, 2014 at 7 am, Sharon showed up to Camie Cragg Fitness on Mira Loma.
When she walked thru the door at CCF, she knew she had found exactly what she was looking for, what she needed to find herself again. Camie was on her headset; the music filled the air. Camie’s energy was contagious, and she welcomed Sharon with open arms as she does every person who walks thru that door. Sharon continued to go four days a week. In four months, Sharon had her cholesterol down to 195, and she had gone from a size 12/14 jeans to a size 10. Her doctor was pleased with her success.
Sharon learned that you must make a change in your lifestyle and be your own advocate for the betterment of your health. There is never a quick fix.
Sharon has continued to participate at CCF ever since that first day. She enrolled in Camie’s Project C in August 2017. After she completed the 12-week program, Sharon competed in a Beach Bikini Fitness show two days before turning 58.
Camie Cragg Fitness has become not only Sharon’s home and her safe place but also her workplace as she has now obtained her NASM Personal Trainer Certification and joined the training staff at CCF under Camie’s direction.
Sharon has two children and six grandchildren. They are the most important things in her life and she plans on being around them for a very long time.
Sharon understands that you are never too old to accomplish the things you need to do to live a healthy and active lifestyle.
